The use of Laeucaena species in the African smallholder farming systems is reviewed. A wide range of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit. cultivars from a wide range of seed sources have been in use principally for soil fertility amelioration, fuelwood and fodder. description The use of Laeucaena species in the African smallholder farming systems is reviewed. A wide range of Leucaena leucocephala (Lam.) de Wit. cultivars from a wide range of seed sources have been in use principally for soil fertility amelioration, fuelwood and fodder. With the advent of the leucaena psyllid pest challenge, new and less known Leucaena species and provenances are currently and widely being evaluated in diverse ecoregions for adaptation and possible integration into diverse farming systems and household/community use.
