| Summary: | This paper highlights livestock research activities at the International Livestock research Institute (ILRI). It outlines demand issues; why livestock research is required; changes at ILRI; promoting sustainable livelihoods - briefing the eight programmes at ILRI that encompass the researchable issues in smallholder livestock production systems including systems analysis and impact assessment, genetics and genomics, feeds and nutrition, livestock health, policy analysis, people; livestock, and environment, strengthening partnerships, and systemwide livestock programe. Accomplishing the global agenda for livestock research is the topic of the last discussion.
