| Sumario: | The paper presents an overview of the newly established International Irrigation Management Institute (IIMI) headquartered in Sri Lanka. The areas in which IIMI has focused its research activities are described and some of the international staff that have been recruited to lead the research are identified. The author then reviews IIMI's professional development program which includes workshops, fellowships, post-doctoral awards, special awards, and on-the-job training. The final section describes the activities of the communication and information exchange program at IIMI.
