Sumario:The Landscape Mosaics project intended participatory action research (PAR) as one of two central approaches in the original research design (the other approach being more conventional research). However there was failure to implement PAR in the 5 sites as described and analyzed in the book entitled ‘Participatory action research for catalyzing adaptive management: Analysis of a “Fits and Starts” process.’ The paper argues that contextual constraints can significantly interfere with the conduct of research and development, and accordingly should be analyzed more honestly.
