Part I covers variable antigen types (VATs); metacyclic antigens; in vivo and in vitro attenuation; and molecular and genetic engineering. Part II, to be included in the next issue of this journal, will cover immunogenicity of subcellular fractions; immunological intervention against the tsetse fly; induction of increased resistance by immunostimulants; trypanotolerance; and infection and treatment. This will be followed by a brief statement of the conclusions reached.
