Megathyrsus breeding program: Multi-trait Factor-Analytic Analysis of a Stage 2 Hybrid Trial

Sumario:In 2024, a new population of Megathyrsus maximus hybrids (designated PM24) was developed by crossing the sexual population PMSX23 with the apomictic tester CIAT_ (cv. Mombasa). This population was evaluated during 2024 and 2025 across three locations: Palmira, Llanos, and Quilichao. The data were first analyzed using spatial mixed models to calculate Best Linear Unbiased Estimates (BLUEs) and weights for each trait at each location. Subsequently, a multi-trait analysis was conducted using these BLUEs and weights to estimate genetic correlations among the traits. This report details the second stage of this analysis, which employed a Factor-Analytic (FA2) mixed model. The study focused on a comprehensive
