description The CGIAR Road from COP29 to COP30 Fireside Chat Series convenes global experts to unpack the negotiation tracks shaping climate finance and adaptation ahead of COP30.This session turns to the Just Transition Work Programme (JTWP),a critical and evolving track established at COP27 to ensure that climate action is fair, inclusive, and aligned with national development priorities. The JTWP supports implementation of Article 2.1(c) of the Paris Agreement by fostering low-emission, climate-resilient development that leaves no one behind. While the JTWP provides an important foundation, key questions remain: What does a "just transition" look like in different sectors and regions? And how can it be operationalized at scale and with urgency? These issues were raised in submissions to the third JTWP dialogue by CGIAR, FAO, the United Nations Foundation, AGNES, Mercy for Animals, the Global Alliance for Improved Nutrition, and ILRI, highlighting that agrifood systems remain largely absent from current JTWP discussions, despite their importance for mitigation, adaptation, and livelihoods. Including language around “low greenhouse gas emission development in a manner that does not threaten food production” in the final COP29 text creates a window for action. This fireside chat will explore how the JTWP can better integrate agrifood systems, especially in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs),and what is needed to scale up finance, capacity building, and technology transfer for a just and equitable transition. Speakers: George Wamukoya , Team Leader of the African Group of Negotiators Experts Support (AGNES) Inkar Kadyrzhanova, Senior Natural Resources Officer at the FAO Office on Climate Change, Biodiversity and Environment Moustapha Kamal Gueye, Director, Priority Action Programme Just transitions towards environmentally sustainable economies and societies at the International Labour Organization (ILO). Elodie Guillon, Head of Civil Society Engagement at World Animal Protection
