| Sumario: | Introduction. The Gender-Transformative Research Methodologies Toolkit responds to the recognition that research processes themselves can influence individual, household and community dynamics, and – if not designed and implemented with due care – result in tacitly supporting, or potentially worsening, negative gender outcomes. The aim of the GTRM Toolkit is to create positive dynamics and outcomes in collaboration with local people and organisations.
Each tool in the toolkit is designed to support gender-transformative research. This means they:
• Intervene in different spheres from individual to community or organization
• Intervene in different areas of power, agency and institutions
• are reflexive about the researchers’ positionality
• maximize ownership by the people whose lives the research is expected to improve, allowing them to influence the design, execution and validation of research (and even engage in peer replication processes to spread the tool among community members).
Together, they represent a selection of resources, ready to adopt and adapt, and mix and match with other tools, to suit a wide variety of research contexts.
Some of the tools have been piloted already, some are in prototype stage. We invite you to try them out and share with us your experiences. If you create translations or adaptations of the tool, let us know and we can share them with the wider gender-transformative research community.
