description The Risk-Mapper Plugin, developed by the International Water Management Institute (IWMI), introduces a powerful open-source solution for high-resolution flood risk analysis within the QGIS environment. Designed to overcome longstanding challenges in obtaining accurate flood extent data and constructing detailed exposure and vulnerability indices, the plugin automates complex geospatial workflows. It integrates them into a unified, user-friendly framework. Its core innovation lies in combining three essential components, Hazard, Exposure, and Vulnerability, to generate a composite flood risk index that supports scientifically grounded, evidence-based decision-making. A key feature of the plugin is its use of multi-year Sentinel-1 Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) imagery to derive flood Hazard. This ensures precise flood extent mapping even during adverse weather conditions. The hazard layer is further enriched through integration with high-resolution exposure datasets (population, infrastructure, cropland) and vulnerability indicators derived from socio-economic and demographic data. Risk-Mapper includes a suite of tools for raster preprocessing, hazard and exposure analysis, vulnerability computation, and final risk analysis. With bundled sample datasets and seamless installation through the QGIS Plugin Manager, it enables users, including government agencies, researchers, and planners, to produce fine-scale flood risk maps efficiently.
