description In response to CORAF’s demand, AICCRA has supported efforts to build and expand regional capacity on Foresight Analysis (FA) methods and tools in West and Central Africa (WCA). This InfoNote documents the process, key insights, and lessons learned from AICCRA-supported efforts to institutionalize FA for planning climate-resilient agriculture and food systems in the region. The Regional Community of Practice (CoP), a pool of expertise institutionalized for mainstreaming of FA in WCA, has actively translated foresight knowledge into practice at the national level and regional levels. This has been achieved through the organization of trainings and awareness raising sessions, the application of FA tools and methods in diagnostics and strategy design and the contribution to national and regional projects that address issues such as climate resilience, gender inequalities and sustainability of agricultural systems. The CoP revitalization workshop has further fostered collective learning on foresight methodologies, strengthened members’ confidence in applying foresight tools, and reinforced the commitment to use these tools in research, institutional processes, and strategic planning. A regional roadmap structured around six pillars was co-developed to institutionalize FA at national and regional levels, including capacity strengthening, community expansion, institutional anchoring, governance, knowledge sharing, and research and project development, providing a pathway to embed foresight systematically in agricultural research, policy, and planning.
