description This blog highlights the role of orange-fleshed sweetpotato (OFSP) in strengthening food security, nutrition, and household resilience in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a region affected by conflict, displacement, and chronic malnutrition. OFSP has gained importance due to its climate resilience, rapid regeneration, and high vitamin A content, addressing widespread micronutrient deficiencies. Through partnerships between the International Potato Center (CIP), INERA, and other stakeholders, improved OFSP varieties are being disseminated alongside strengthened seed systems, farmer training, and value addition initiatives. The integration of OFSP into local diets and urban markets creates opportunities for income generation while supporting resilient food systems and improved nutrition in the Great Lakes region.
