| description | The AgX Unconference at Bengaluru, was the second in the global series following Nairobi. It convened diverse stakeholders across India’s agricultural, digital, and policy ecosystem to reflect on the country’s rapid digitalisation journey and its implications for smallholder farmers. Rooted in India’s context and framed through the lived realities of Lakshmi, a representative smallholder farmer navigating uncertainty amid climate variability, market fluctuations, and limited access to advisory and finance, the Unconference surfaced both the challenges and transformative potential of Digital Public Infrastructure (DPI) and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in agriculture.
Through participatory dialogue informed by on-the-ground experiences from farmers, technologists, FPOs, researchers, and policymakers, a shared consensus emerged: digital systems must work reliably, accessibly, and meaningfully for producers at the last mile. The convening emphasized the growing opportunity to build physical, interoperable, and farmer-centric ecosystems, while fostering sustained learning bridges between India and Africa.
This document distills the key themes and recommendations, identified during the AGX Unconference. It is intended for a broader audience beyond those in attendance, to advance a collective, action-oriented agenda for inclusive and resilient digital transformation in agriculture. |
