| Sumario: | This training manual provides practical guidance for designing and implementing localized climate-smart agriculture (CSA) interventions using the CSA Investment Planning (CSAIP) methodology. It builds on the experience of the Accelerating Impacts of CGIAR Climate Research for Africa (AICCRA) program and the Scaling up Climate Ambition on Land Use and Agriculture (SCALA) initiative in Ethiopia. The manual equips practitioners with step-by-step tools for translating national CSA investment frameworks into actionable local interventions that enhance resilience, productivity, and sustainability. It is organized into three interlinked modules: (1) understanding CSA and its integration into broader programming; (2) developing bankable business cases for local CSA investments through situation analysis, prioritization, cost-benefit analysis, and portfolio development; and (3) establishing monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL) systems to track outcomes and promote adaptive management. The manual emphasizes participatory, gender-responsive approaches and the use of evidence-based planning to address climate risks in priority value chains such as small-scale irrigation, small ruminant production, and poultry. It aims to strengthen the technical and institutional capacities of local governments, farmer groups, and implementing partners to design, finance, and monitor CSA interventions aligned with Ethiopia’s climate and development goals.
