The training aimed to strengthen the capacities of agricultural and pastoral producer organizations to promote women’s empowerment in accessing and using Climate Information Services (CIS).
Facilitated by ILRI’s Gender and Social Inclusion Expert, the sessions combined lectures, group discussions, and pre- and post-training evaluations. The modules covered gender and climate change, climate justice, inclusive governance of CIS, and approaches to enhance women’s participation in decision-making related to climate adaptation.
Test results revealed a significant improvement in participants’ understanding, with incorrect responses decreasing from 52–71% before training to 20–30% afterward. The workshop equipped trainers with the tools to cascade knowledge to rural communities, supported by AICCRA and RESOPP experts.
The experience demonstrates the effectiveness of participatory and gender-sensitive approaches in strengthening climate resilience within Senegal’s agricultural systems and highlights the importance of continued training and support for rural women in the use of climate information services.
Ce rapport présente les résultats d’une formation de formateurs organisée du 16 au 18 septembre 2025 à Thiès (Sénégal), dans le cadre du projet AICCRA, en partenariat avec le RESOPP. L’objectif principal de la formation était de renforcer les capacités des organisations de producteurs agricoles et pastoraux afin de promouvoir l’autonomisation des femmes dans l’accès et l’utilisation des services d’information climatique (SIC).
Le programme, animé par l’expert genre et inclusion sociale de l’ILRI, a combiné des exposés, des travaux de groupe et des évaluations pré- et post-formation. Les modules ont porté sur le genre et le changement climatique, la justice climatique, la gouvernance équitable des SIC et les approches inclusives favorisant la participation des femmes aux processus décisionnels.
Les résultats des tests montrent une amélioration significative des connaissances des participants entre le début et la fin de la formation (réduction des erreurs de 52–71 % à 20–30 % selon les modules). Cette session a permis d’outiller les formateurs pour diffuser les acquis auprès des communautés rurales, avec l’appui des experts d’AICCRA et du RESOPP.
L’expérience confirme la pertinence des approches participatives et sensibles au genre pour renforcer la résilience climatique des systèmes agricoles au Sénégal et souligne la nécessité de poursuivre la formation et l’accompagnement des femmes rurales dans l’usage des SIC. |
