description At the 10th international conference on Sustainable Animal Agriculture for Developing Countries (SAADC2025), in Can Tho City, Vietnam, the International Livestock Research Institute (ILRI) hosted a thematic session to introduce the Livestock and Climate Solutions Hub. This is a new CGIAR global initiative designed to accelerate the transformation of livestock systems in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) toward sustainability, resilience, and low emissions. Led by Aditi Mukherji, ILRI principal scientist and the Hub leader, the session brought together 40 participants from government agencies, research institutions, development partners, and the private sector. Discussions focused on how integrated research, innovation, and policy collaboration can support LMICs in addressing the challenges of livestock productivity, climate change, and public health. The Hub will serve as a virtual platform — convening, synthesizing, amplifying and influencing science-policy actions— to strengthen multi-stakeholder partnerships and co-develop practical solutions across the Global South. Key presentations showcased innovations in One Health, climate adaptation, genetics, and ICT solutions for livestock systems. Vietnam’s National Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) shared experiences in developing climate-resilient poultry breeds, and the National Institute of Veterinary Research (NIVR) introduced the ICT-based FarmVetCare surveillance tool to strengthen biosecurity and early disease detection. CGIAR researchers presented bundled intervention packages combining One Health, genetics, nutrition, and animal health innovations to enhance productivity and reduce emissions under the CGIAR Initiative on Sustainable Animal Productivity (SAPLING) and CGIAR Science Program on Sustainable Animal and Aquatic Foods (SAAF). Participants emphasized the importance of: • evidence-based science to inform policy and investment in livestock and climate actions; • cross-sector collaboration to integrate genetics, health, nutrition, and environmental management; • capacity building and knowledge exchange to strengthen local expertise; • climate financing mechanisms to incentivize sustainable livestock practices; and • improved communication and networking among actors to share innovations and success stories. Building on the stakeholder’s feedback from SAADC 2025, ILRI will engage partners through a series of multi-stakeholder consultation workshops across Asia in the coming months. These dialogues will foster collaboration, co-design regional initiatives, and mobilize resources to operationalize the Hub.
