Sumario:Neglected and underutilized species (NUS)—often called opportunity crops—are increasingly recognized as vital for Africa’s food systems. They contribute to climate resilience, improved nutrition, diversified livelihoods, and biodiversity conservation. Yet, despite their potential, these crops remain underrepresented in agricultural policies, markets, and research agendas. This report presents the findings of the SUSTLIVES Activity 3.4 stakeholder survey, conducted in 2025. With responses from 67 stakeholders across multiple African countries, the survey mapped actors engaged in opportunity crops projects, identified communication and collaboration patterns, and highlighted opportunities for scaling up and creating synergies. The findings show strong engagement from diverse actors, including farmers, NGOs, governments, research institutions, and private companies—but also highlight fragmentation, weak policy alignment, and limited market linkages. Stakeholders emphasize the need for a continental platform under the African Union to harmonize policies, strengthen conservation systems, and promote inclusive participation. The report concludes with recommendations to scale up community seed systems, integrate opportunity crops into national and regional policies, and foster stronger coordination and communication mechanisms.
