Sumario:This presentation was for the African Group of Negotiators Expert Support (AGNES) Climate Governance, Diplomacy and Negotiations Leadership Programme. The Programme aims to build and strengthen African climate leaders by improving their knowledge and negotiation skills to enable them to engage effectively in international climate change policy discourse as well as contribute to the successful implementation of climate actions at regional and national levels. This presentation explores how African countries are developing long-term low emissions climate resilient development strategies (LT-LEDS), comparing examples from across the continent, and highlights key elements such as just transitions, gender integration, adaptation and mitigation measures, and institutional coordination. It also introduces a technical guidance framework to support countries in designing and operationalising LT-LEDS, detailing the phases, processes, and capacity needs involved in laying robust foundations for long-term climate planning.
