description This diagnostic evaluates formal and informal players operating at the low end of the insurance market and across various facets of the value chain. We analyzed micro-insurance market structures, provision platforms, and distribution channels and categorize market factors and trends affecting the expansion of the micro-insurance sector (considered the penetration of social welfare and other government support networks as alternative risk mitigating mechanisms) and offer recommendations and interventions with an objective to structure a framework for a national agricultural insurance strategy for the rural economy in Ethiopia.
