Sumario:The National Food Consumption and Micronutrient Survey conducted 2021-2022 by IITA in collaboration with the Nigerian government, covered 14,820 respondents including children, adolescent girls, pregnant women, non- pregnant women from all the geo-political zones in Nigeria. Using the Index Mobile Application to collect food collection data and micronutrient food consumption data on the same individuals-respondents. The survey, proved that most diets are inadequate for key micronutrients, and the intake of bio-fortified crops is low resulting to poor nutrition. The survey recommends the inclusion of micronutrients like Folate and Zinc in fortification programs, making available healthy, safe and affordable diet to reduce malnutrition and poverty in Africa.
