| description | National Policies and Strategies aims to enhance the coherence of policy engagement across CGIAR Initiatives, building shared analytical capacity at national and subnational levels, developing communities of policy practice, responding to policy demand and supporting rapid crisis response (see graphic). These activities will inform more effective and efficient country-level policymaking, benefiting millions more people, including the poorest and most food insecure living in vulnerable environments.
In a rapidly changing world, the need to make food, land, and water systems more productive, sustainable, resilient, and responsive to growing demand — and future shocks — has never been greater. After years of progress, food and nutrition insecurity, poverty, and inequality are growing again in many countries. In addition to fighting current crises, policymakers must adapt to a fast-moving geopolitical landscape, one in which digitalization, urbanization, the climate crisis and other demographic and social changes pose additional challenges for policymaking.
Transforming food systems to drive social and economic development requires country-driven, innovative economic, environmental, and social policies. More policy coherence and an increased use of policy analysis tools can help the design and implementation of policies that are more effective and efficient in delivering outcomes. Greater use of empirical data, as well as political economy considerations, also play a key role for policymakers to ensure that policies and investment programs overcome barriers and obstacles to implementation and scaling. |
