description One of the biggest problems for small scale potato farmers in developing countries is seed degeneration, that is, the reduction of yield and seed quality because repetitive propagation of the seed tubers over several cropping cycles, also known as seed recycling or seed reuse. A lot of efforts have been made in the past to overcome seed degeneration, especially the production of certified seed. But most of these efforts have felt short and farmers still experience severe losses due to seed degeneration, especially in warm climates. This animation video describes a concept called integrated seed health that will help farmers to manage seed potato degeneration, and project designers to improve seed projects in Sub Saharan Africa.
