| Sumario: | Every year, drought impacts millions of people worldwide, including in South Asia. Since 1990, affecting over 750 million people, with economic damages estimated at 7 billion USD. Mitigating drought risks helps support vulnerable communities to face the effects and impacts of drought conditions, through enhancing coping capacities such as preventive measures at the sub-national or local levels.
IWMI and its partners developed the next generation South Asia Drought Monitoring System (SADMS) that provides access to real-time weather updates, and monitoring drought indicators using near real-time satellite data and guides agencies to activate drought action plans using the agriculture contingency plans and drought decision support tool. The SADMS allows APIs access to integrate into a third-party platform for robust data analytics and decision making process.
