Sumario:4000 smallholder farmers in Ethiopia, Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania have participated in variety testing and selection of diverse portfolios of bean, finger millet, sorghum, wheat and barley, obtained from national genebanks. The best performing varieties have been characterized and catalogued for use by national breeding programs. Breeding programs in Ethiopia, Kenya and Uganda have identified potential elite lines for future crop improvement. Farmer adoption of these varieties has improved livelihoods and strengthened the capacity to adapt to climate change.
