Description
Summary:As part of the spittlebugs complex (Hemiptera: Cercopidae) the species of the genus Aeneolamia can considerably affect grass crops by extracting sap from the xylem. With the objective of corroborating previous observations, a spittlebug sampling was carried in the vicinity of Santiago de Cali city. The collected specimens (Cercopidae) were subjected to a taxonomic identification process. As a result, the first report of A. reducta in Valle del Cauca is presented. So far this species was reported in livestock production areas of the Caribbean coast, the Eastern plains and the Magdalena River valley in different species of cultivated pastures. Finally, the potential risk for sugarcane cultivation is discussed.
