Sumario:The CGIAR Research Program on Rice Agrifood Systems (RICE) represents a single strategic and work plan for global rice research. RICE brings together hundreds of scientists to embark on the most comprehensive attempt ever to harness the power of science to solve the pressing development challenges of the 21st century. Cutting-edge science is deployed to develop new rice varieties with high yield potential and tolerance of a variety of stresses such as flooding, salinity, drought, soil problems, pests, weeds, and diseases. Improved natural resource management practices will allow farmers to fully realize the benefits of such new varieties on a sustainable basis while protecting the environment. Future rice production systems are designed to adapt to climate change and to mitigate the impacts of global warming. Policies conducive to the adoption of new varieties and cropping systems will be designed to facilitate the realization of development outcomes. RICE will train future rice scientists and strengthen the capacity of advisory systems to reach millions of farmers. For impact at scale, RICE scientists collaborate with hundreds of development partners from the public and private sector across the globe.
