En este informe se analiza una parte del Sistema de Innovación Agroalimentaria y Forestal de Chile, los Institutos Tecnológicos Públicos del Sector Agropecuario y su interacción con el Ministerio de Agricultura (MINAGRI). La agenda estratégica apunta a convertir al país en una potencia agroalimentaria y forestal global, capaz de competir en los mercados nacionales e internacionales. El progreso en los sectores de la agricultura y la exportación tendrá que ser impulsado por un enfoque basado en el conocimiento para la producción, el procesamiento y la comercialización, que cobrará mayor importancia a medida que Chile alcance niveles de ingresos más altos y pierda su ventaja comparativa en mano de obra barata. La revisión concluye que los Institutos Tecnológicos Públicos (ITP), en su estado actual, podrían verse limitados en su participación en el Sistema Nacional de Innovación revitalizado. Sin embargo, la expansión del financiamiento a áreas como los centros de extensión, impondrá demandas adicionales y creará oportunidades para estas instituciones.
