FR1.1: Do Water, Energy and Food Policies in Support of Solar Irrigation Enable Gender Transformative Changes in South Asia? Evidence from Policy Analysis in Bangladesh and Nepal
Publicado 2022“…We find that WEF policies are aware of the need to include GESI and social equity in sectoral programming, yet operational rules for implementation of these policies often fail to the challenge structural barriers that prevent women and marginalized groups from participating in and benefiting from WEF policies, including from deployment of SIP technologies. …”

Large genomic introgression blocks of Phaseolus parvifolius Freytag bean into the common bean enhance the crossability between tepary and common beans
Publicado 2022“…Whole-genome sequencing analysis of these three interspecific lines shows large introgressions of genomic regions corresponding to P. parvifolius on chromosomes that presumably contribute to reproductive barriers between both species. The development of these lines opens up the possibility of increasing the introgression of desirable tepary bean traits into the common bean to address constraints driven by climate change.…”

Biotechnology approaches in breeding for biotic stress resistance in yam (Dioscorea spp.)
Publicado 2022“…However, in recent years, biotechnological approaches are being successfully introduced into yam genetic improvement to shorten the breeding cycle, optimize parent selection, predict cross and progeny performances, identify seedling sex, and break interspecific hybridization barriers among yam species. The approaches include next-generation sequencing-based genotyping, transcriptomics, metabolomics, genetic transformation, gene editing, genome-wide association studies, genomic prediction, marker-assisted selection, in vitro culture, ploidy analysis, and somatic hybridization. …”

The use of mobile phones and the heterogeneity of banana farmers in Rwanda
Publicado 2023“…Regression results further indicated that farm type, gender, and education have significant correlations with the perceived usefulness of mobile phones in agriculture. Major barriers to using ICT-based agricultural services were 1) low awareness of the existence of ICT services, 2) limited availability of ICT services, 3) lack of technical know-how, 4) relatively high prices of ICT devices, and 5) low levels of ICT literacy. …”

Smallholder farmers' willingness to pay for two-wheel tractor-based mechanisation services in Zambia and Zimbabwe
Publicado 2023“…These findings imply a need to (i) raise awareness and create demand for 2WT-based services in an inclusive business manner that does not create perverse incentives and (ii) better target mechanisation to operations with comparative advantage, using approaches that bundle 2WT-based and other mechanisation services with asset-agnostic credit schemes or other interventions meant to overcome asset-mediated barriers.…”
