Climate change and agricultural policy options: A global-to-local approach
Publicado 2016“…Worst hit will be underdeveloped regions of the world where food insecurity is already a problem and populations are vulnerable to shocks (Rosegrant et al. 2014). Improvements in agricultural technology and management are expected to increase food security, but if we do not address climate change, climate-related losses in crop and livestock productivity will reduce those gains (Lobell and Gourdji 2012). …”

Misreporting month of birth: Implications for nutrition research
Publicado 2017“…Using simulations, we show how these forms of misreporting child age can replicate observed patterns in the data, and that they have small impacts on estimated rates of stunting but important implications for research that relies on birth timing to identify exposure to various risks, particularly seasonal shocks. Moreover, the misreporting we identify differs from conventional age-heaping concerns, implying that the metrics described above could constitute useful markers of measurement error in nutrition surveys. …”

Climate-resilient aquatic food systems require transformative change to address gender and intersectional inequalities
Publicado 2024“…Our findings show that intersecting identities disadvantage certain AFS actors, particularly young women from minority ethnic groups, and create challenge for them to manage and adapt to climate shocks and stresses. Examples of gender-responsive and transformative interventions are highlighted from our review to showcase how such intersectional disadvantages can be addressed to increase women’s empowerment and social and gender equality.…”

Endogenous technologies and productivity in rice production: Roles of social instability in Myanmar since 2021
Publicado 2024“…Specifically, increased violent events have been generally associated with downward factor-neutral shift in production function, and more importantly, increased output elasticity to agricultural capital (equipment) owned (in other words, reduced output resilience against capital ownership shocks). Our evidence also suggests that this has been led partly through reduced access to agricultural extension services, which would otherwise help farmers maintain productivity even with limited capital ownership by substituting it with human capital and skills. …”

A literature review of the gender-differentiated impacts of climate change on women's and men's assets and well-being in developing countries
Publicado 2012“…The second hypothesis is that climate-related shocks affect women more negatively than men. With limited evidence from developing countries, this review shows that climate change affects women’s and men’s assets and well-being differently in six impact areas: (i) impacts related to agricultural production, (ii) food security, (iii) health, (iv) water and energy resources, (v) climate-induced migration and conflict, and (vi) climate-related natural disasters. …”

Rural institutions and producer organizations in imperfect markets: experiences from producer marketing groups in semi-arid eastern Kenya
Publicado 2006“…The analysis presented here with a case study from eastern Kenya has shown that while collective action – embodied in Producer Marketing Groups (PMGs) – is feasible and useful, external shocks and structural constraints that limit the volume of trade and access to capital and information require investments in complementary institutions and coordination mechanisms to exploit scale economies. …”

Co-developing climate-responsive propositions for aquatic food systems in the Bengal Delta to influence transformative policies and investments
Publicado 2024“…However, aquatic food systems in the delta are highly vulnerable to climate change because of the region’s geographical and environmental setting, which is largely affected by sea-level rise and interannual climate variabilities. As such, climatic shocks and stresses, together with poor infrastructural, socioeconomic and ecological factors in the coastal belt of the country, diminish the ability of small-scale aquatic food producers to tackle climate risks. …”

Cereal consumption and marketing responses by rural smallholders under rising cereal prices
Publicado 2018“…Rather, under the rising commodity price regime, smallholders significantly reduced consumption expenditure on high food value-enriched non-cereal food items to adjust to the market shocks. This is a Bangladesh-based case study. Individual country-level case studies should be conducted in order to generalize the findings of the present study. The present study warns that the market volatility may discourage farm households to market their cereals more due to uncertain future. …”
