Adoption and nonadoption of minimum tillage potato cultivation resulting from mechanized rice farming in Vietnam
Publicado 2025“…Findings reveal that the original practice has been discontinued after initial adoption, primarily attributed to the adoption of rice harvesters and power tillers. The reasons for discontinuation differ from those for other conservation agriculture practices like zero tillage maize or wheat production, emphasizing the importance of tailored approaches for each crop and locality. …”

What do criteria and indicators assess?: an analysis of five C&I sets relevant for forest management in the Brazilian Amazon
Publicado 2003“…The diversity of C&I sets is often a cause for uncertainty and confusion, and probably one of the reasons for the still unsatisfactory acceptance of C&I as a support for implementation of sustainable forest management so far. …”

Restoration and research on degraded forest ecosystems
Publicado 2004“…Similar degradation was observed in Northeast Asian regions: desertification in China and Mongolia, and deforestation in Democratic People’s Republic of Korea and Far East Russia. An understanding of causes or issues in degraded forest ecosystems is essential to start structural/functional restoration activities. …”

Is wildlife research useful for wildlife conservation in the tropics?: A review for Borneo with global implications
Publicado 2007“…We found that few studies address threats to species and fewer still provide input for or guidance to effective management. We consider various reasons for these shortcomings. Research is seldom judged on its relevance to pragmatic problem solving. …”

Exploring the agroforestry adoption gap: financial and socioeconomics of litchi-based agroforestry by smallholders in Rajshahi (Bangladesh)
Publicado 2008“…Net present values and returns to labor of agroforestry were five times higher than those of alternative (annual) crops, and yet the adoption rate remained very low, even though an agroforestry project had been carried out in the study area and agroforestry had positive cultural value. Common economic reasoning is that in such cases, adoption is hampered by capacity constraints of the farmers. …”

Agriculture and climate change mitigation in the developing world
Publicado 2014“…Many proven agricultural practices and policies can reduce this impact on the global climate without compromising food production, or reduce the climate impact per unit of agricultural production. A reasonable target by 2030 for climate mitigation in developing world agriculture, taking into account the large difference between technical potentials and economically viable adoption rates and noting the equity issues relating to the mitigation activities in the developing world, is around 1.2 GtCO2eq/y for agriculture (~ 22% of projected unmitigated agricultural emissions by 2030) and 1.2 GtCO2eq/y for avoided and more climate-appropriate land use changes (~ 30% of current land use change related emissions).…”

Policy and scale factors influencing efficiency in dairy and poultry production in Bangladesh
Publicado 2005“…The theoretical framework was based on the premise that small-scale producers may be able to compete with large-scale producers in the expanding market if they fulfil two conditions: if smallholders earn higher profit/unit of output as they need to earn a reasonable income to stay in business with low volume of output, and if smallholders are more profit-efficient in the use of their limited resources, i.e. use fewer resources/unit of profit generated.…”

Institutions and transition: does a better institutional environment make water users associations more effective in Central Asia?
Publicado 2010“…This paper draws on the experiences, over four years, of three study WUAs set up in the Ferghana Valley in Uzbekistan, Tajikistan and the Kyrgyz Republic. Aiming to explore the differences in institutional environment and arrangements in these three countries for establishing WUAs, as well as assessing WUA performances (particularly from users' perspectives), the study reveals that it is not only the newly-established institutional arrangements in the irrigation sector but also their internal operations, coupled with other important factors such as size of area farmed, overall viability of agriculture and a wider economic context that crucially determine overall irrigation performance.…”
