Understanding the dynamic of rice farming systems in southern Mozambique to improve production and benefits to smallholders
Publicado 2021“…Rice farming systems (RFSs) in southern Mozambique are very heterogeneous and diversified, which has implications for smallholders’ adoption of each RFS, as well as on rice production and productivity in the region. …”

Perspectives of predictive epidemiology and early warning systems for Rift Valley fever in Garissa, Kenya
Publicado 2013“…Persistent elevated rainfall and NDVI suggest that there is a likelihood of another RVF outbreak due to enhance vector competence. Given the nearly linear relationship between rainfall and NDVI it is thus possible to utilize these factors to examine and predict spatially and temporally RVF epidemics for effective surveillance with limited resources. …”

Grafting Enhances Pepper Water Stress Tolerance by Improving Photosynthesis and Antioxidant Defense Systems
Publicado 2021“…Var/H92 showed photosynthesis and stomata conductance maintenance, compared to sensitive grafted plants (Var/H90) and ungrafted plants under water stress, linked with greater instantaneous water use efficiency. The antioxidant system was effective in removing reactive oxygen species (ROS) that could damage photosynthesis; a significant positive and negative linear correlation was observed between the rate of CO2 uptake and ascorbic acid (AsA)/total AsA (AsAt) and proline, respectively. …”

Carbon assessment for Robusta coffee production systems in Vietnam: a case study in Dak Lak
Publicado 2018“…In this study, we evaluated the climate impact of Robusta production via quantification of carbon stock and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in the intensive shaded and unshaded coffee farms of the world’s largest Robusta producing region, Vietnam’s Central Highlands. We find due to the linear relationship between fertilizer use and yields, emissions from input use on a per unit product basis are not significantly different between the intensive and less intensive systems. …”

An example of decision support for trypanosomiasis control using a geographic information system in eastern Zambia
Publicado 2002“…Experienced Zambian veterinarians and biologists working in the region established criteria weights for the input variables and the data were integrated in a geographical information system (GIS), using weighted linear combinations to prioritize areas for trypanosomiasis control. …”

Scaling climate resilient seed systems through SMEs in Eastern and Southern Africa: challenges and opportunities
Publicado 2023“…Whereas proponents of private sector-scaling of CSA seed systems through inclusive business models make linear assumptions surrounding shared value outcomes and impact at scale for farmers and companies alike, we argue that these dynamics are not always straightforward in practice. …”

Discriminating Robusta coffee (Coffea canephora) cropping systems using leaf-level hyperspectral data
Publicado 2024“…The coffee agro-ecosystems are increasingly being transformed into small-scale coffee-growing agricultural systems. In this context, the challenge of accurately classifying coffee cropping systems (CSs) becomes more significant, particularly in regions such as Uganda where dense vegetation and diverse topography complicate traditional land surveys. …”

Publicado 2008“…Whilst this model can optimize systems for food security and cash income, its research for development value is in identifying possible intensification strategies for farming systems and their implications on the farming systems, rather than generating practical recommendations for all cropping systems.…”

The effect of the proportion of Modern European ancestry on grower and sow performance of pigs in smallholder systems in Uganda
Publicado 2023“…These pigs were also involved in a longitudinal study with several traits recorded, including 540 body weights (WT) of 374 growing pigs, 195 records of total number of piglets born alive (TBA) of 157 sows, and 110 total number weaned (TNW) records of 94 sows. Linear mixed-effects models were used to test for the significance of environmental effects, including housing system, geographic location, and the season when the events occurred as well as animal-specific effects like age, sex, parity, and farrow-to-weaning interval. …”
