Exploring the usefulness of scenario archetypes in science-policy processes: experience across IPBES assessments
Publicado 2019“…In terms of challenges, they were perceived as subjective in their interpretation, oversimplifying information, having a limited applicability across scales, and concealing contextual information and novel narratives. Finally, our results highlight what methodologies, applications, and frontiers in archetype-based research should be explored in the future. …”

Using high-resolution imagery and deep learning to classify land-use following deforestation: a case study in Ethiopia
Publicado 2022“…The experiments aimed at an analysis of (a) single-date images from individual sensors to account for the differences in spatial resolution between image sensors in detecting land-uses, (b) ensembles of multiple images from different sensors (Planet-NICFI/Sentinel-2/Landsat-8) with different spatial resolutions, (c) the use of multi-date data to account for the contribution of temporal information in detecting land-uses, and, finally, (d) the identification of regional differences in terms of land-use following deforestation in Ethiopia. …”

Publicado 2025“…The importance of identifying resistance sources that can be incorporated into breeding programs was emphasized, and commitments were made for feedback and joint evaluation. Finally, advances in breeding for tolerance to abiotic stress and biofortification were presented, along with a practical training on market segmentation and product profiles, which enabled the identification of regional priorities, production constraints, and key varietal traits, aligning breeding efforts with farmers’ needs and strengthening the regional impact of the project.…”

Understanding the impact and adoption of conservation agriculture in Africa: a multi-scale analysis
Publicado 2014“…Another key factor that explains the limited CA adoption in mixed crop-livestock farming systems is the fact that crop harvest residues are preferably used as fodder for livestock, preventing their use as soil cover. Finally, in most case studies good markets for purchase of inputs and sale of produce – a key prerequisite condition for adoption of new technologies – were lacking. …”

El uso de modelos de simulación como herramienta para la toma de decisiones en la promoción de nuevas alternativas forrajeras: El caso de Costa Rica y Perú
Publicado 2002“…In addition, this study shows other uses of this farm model, such as scenarios where the dairy enterprise competes with other agricultural activities existing in the Central Pacific region of Costa Rica. Finally, the study makes reference to other simulation models existing on the market today with a brief summary of each one.…”

Nanoglomus plukenetiae, a new fungus from Peru, and a key to small-spored Glomeraceae species, including three new genera in the “Dominikia complex/clades”
Publicado 2020“…The revision of the species and environmental sequences in the Dominikia clades, based on both morphological and molecular phylogenetic analyses, revealed at least two other new genera: Microdominikia gen. nov., based on D. litorea, and Orientoglomus gen. nov., based on D. emiratia. Finally, in the present study, a key for all small-spored species in the Glomeraceae is included comprising all known Dominikia, Kamienskia, Microdominikia, Microkamienskia, Nanoglomus, Orientoglomus spp., and all small-spored Rhizoglomus spp.…”

Fading opportunities for mitigating agriculture-environment trade-offs in a south American deforestation hotspot
Publicado 2021“…Third, high landscape-scale multifunctionality can be achieved using different land-use strategies, but maintaining >40% of forest is essential in all of them, and silvopasture systems appear to be central for achieving high overall multifunctionality. Finally, our results suggest the window of opportunity is closing rapidly: recent land-use changes since 2000 have rapidly moved the Chaco within the option space, with forest extent declining towards critical thresholds for maintaining balanced, multifunctional landscapes. …”

Characterization of a papain-like cysteine protease essential for the survival of Babesia ovis merozoites
Publicado 2017“…A significant reduction in the percentage of parasitized erythrocytes was obtained upon incubation of B. ovis in vitro cultures with anti-r-ovipain-2 antibodies, indicating an important functional role for ovipain-2 in the intra erythrocytic development cycle of this parasite. Finally, studies of the reactivity of sera from B. ovis-positive and negative sheep against r-ovipain-2 showed that this protease is expressed in vivo, and can be recognized by host antibodies. …”

Degradation influences equilibrium and non-equilibrium dynamics in rangelands: implications in resilience and stability
Publicado 2023“…Specifically, in the degraded state the density of surviving seedlings, the growth of shrubs and Papostipa speciosa’s relative tiller production and cover increased in response to irrigation; whereas seedling emergence and survival, and grass growth were low or even null without irrigation. Finally, resistance and elasticity were lower whereas malleability was greater in degraded than in reference states. …”
