Revisiting poverty trends and the role of social protection systems in Africa during the COVID-19 pandemic
Publicado 2023“…Although the evidence base on the protective role of social protection programs during the pandemic remains scarce, we highlight important findings on the impacts of these programs while also uncovering some vulnerabilities in social protection programming in Africa. We finally draw important lessons related to the delivery, targeting and impact of various social protection programs launched in Africa in response to the pandemic.…”

Drones, communities and nature: pitfalls and possibilities for conservation and territorial rights
Publicado 2023“…We also reflect upon the opportunities and barriers that IPLCs and their collaborators encounter in designing and implementing meaningful drone strategies, explicitly considering social, economic and political challenges. Finally, we consider the socio-ecological outcomes that community drone use enables across these sites along with the ways that drones engender more biocultural and territorial approaches to conservation through IPLC-led monitoring and mapping efforts. …”

Strengthening women’s empowerment for better agricultural outcomes: qualitative and quantitative evidence from India and Guatemala
Publicado 2023“…The second paper uses data from 1200 households in one state in India to assess the role that FPOs play in enhancing women’s empowerment and improving their agronomic practices, agricultural yields and revenues, using difference-in-difference models with matching. Finally, the third paper draws on key informant interviews and focus group discussions with respondents in India to examine constraints on and facilitators of women’s and men’s participation in FPOs, and the perception of benefits these collectives provide. …”

The impacts of production and price shocks on the coffee industry in PNG
Publicado 2024“…We then utilize a simple partial equilibrium model of coffee supply and demand, along with data on coffee production and household consumption from the PNG Household Income and Expenditure Survey (HIES) of 2009/10, FAOSTAT and the World Bank, to simulate the impacts of potential production and price shocks on the coffee industry in Papua New Guinea (PNG). Finally, we present an analysis of price movements in recent years and the potential costs and benefits of a price stabilization policy for coffee producers.…”

Direct and spillover effects of land rights formalization in Africa: A case study of the Second-Level Land Certification (SLLC) in Ethiopia
Publicado 2020“…Empirical results also reveal a market stimulant effect of the SLLC program on land rental market participation with a more direct effect on beneficiary households’ likelihood of renting out land (becoming a landlord) and a spillover benefit to non-beneficiary households’ likelihood of renting-in land (becoming a tenant). Finally, our analysis shows a negative and statistically significant impact on access to and/or control over land by women and youth. …”

Role of land access in youth migration and youth employment decisions: Empirical evidence from rural Nigeria
Publicado 2018“…The results further reveal that youth in areas with a high level of agricultural commercialization and modernization seem to be more responsive to land access considerations in making migration and employment decisions than are youth residing in less commercialized areas. Finally, the results from the differential analysis suggest that rural-to-urban migration and the likelihood of youth involvement in the dual economy is more responsive to the size of the expected land inheritance for less educated youth as compared to more educated ones.…”
