Spatial analysis of sustainable livelihood enterprises of Uganda cotton production
Publicado 2004“…Household-level production data from the 2000 Uganda National Household Survey (UNHS) are used to estimate the current spatial distribution of cotton production (called the cotton production area, or CPA), based on the association of household cotton production with ranges in mapped variables (altitude, length of growing period, and population density), district cotton production statistics and expert knowledge of local production patterns. Cotton development domains (CDDs) are then defined by agroclimatic suitability, market/ginnery access, and inclusion in the CPA. …”

How did households in Mali cope with covariate shocks between 2018 and 2023? Exploration of a unique dataset
Publicado 2024“…This said, political violence has increased over time; food prices hiked in 2018, 2022 and 2023; rainy seasons were underperforming in 2021 and 2023; extreme weather events reached a peak in 2021; while the Gao region in 2023 suffered from all five shock domains at the same time. While fewer households resorted to coping over time, those who did combined slightly more strategies – which either points to increased inequality or generalized depletion of coping potential. …”

How did households in Chad cope with covariate shocks between 2018 and 2023? Exploration of a unique dataset
Publicado 2024“…This said, political violence has increased until 2022 and then fell back; food prices hiked in 2022 and 2023; rainy seasons were underperforming in 2021 and 2023; extreme weather events reached a peak in 2022; while four departments in 2023 suffered from four distinct shock domains at the same time. While coping prevalence and coping intensity are roughly aligned over time, they are only weakly correlated in geographical terms in 2023. …”

Traces of introgression from cAus into tropical japonica observed in African upland rice varieties
Publicado 2023“…The particularities of African accessions were then explored using two inference techniques, PCA-KDE for supervised classification and chromosome painting, and ELAI for individual allelic dosage monitoring. Key Results Ambiguities of local differentiation between Japonica and other groups pointed at genomic segments that potentially resulted from genetic exchange. …”

Women’s empowerment and gender equity in agriculture: A different perspective from Southeast Asia
Publicado 2017“…The results reveal trends that contradict the conventional narratives of gender inequity in agriculture in certain domains of empowerment. In all four countries, women appear to have equal access to productive resources such as land and inputs, and greater control over household income than men. …”

Curated genome annotation of Oryza sativa ssp. japonica and comparative genome analysis with Arabidopsis thaliana.
Publicado 2007“…We conducted comparative analyses between rice andArabidopsis thalianaand found that both genomes possessed several lineage-specific genes, which might account for the observed differences between these species, while they had similar sets of predicted functional domains among the protein sequences. A system to control translational efficiency seems to be conserved across large evolutionary distances. …”

Unpacking power dynamics and women's economic empowerment in polygynous households in Burkina Faso
Publicado 2025“…Monogamous and polygynous marriage may support women's empowerment in different domains. Polygynous co-wives may be able to divide care work, but first wives often control how labor is divided. …”

Annotation and molecular characterisation of the TaIRO3 and TaHRZ iron homeostasis genes in bread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.)
Publicado 2021“…Protein analysis revealed that TaIRO3 and TaHRZ proteins contain functionally conserved domains for DNA-binding, dimerisation, Fe binding, or polyubiquitination, and phylogenetic analysis revealed clustering of TaIRO3 and TaHRZ proteins with other monocot IRO3 and HRZ proteins, respectively. …”

Current and projected changes in climate extremes and agro-climatic zones over East Africa
Publicado 2025“…The drought stress indicators follow the precipitation pattern and are projected to decline over most of the domain. A heterogeneous response of the agro-climate regime to climate changes is projected for eastern Africa, with some areas (e.g., southern Tanzania) experiencing alterations towards drier zones while others (e.g., northern Somalia, South Sudan) are experiencing a shift towards wetter zones. …”

Structure and regulation of the Asr gene family in banana
Publicado 2011“…We determined that the Musa Asr gene family contained at least four members, all of which exhibited the typical two exons, one intron structure of Asr genes and the 'ABA/WDS' (abscisic acid/water deficit stress) domain characteristic of Asr genes. Phylogenetic analyses determined that the Musa Asr genes were closely related to each other, probably as the product of recent duplication events. …”
