  1. Participatory research (PR) at CIP with potato farming systems in the Andes: evolution and prospects por Ortíz, O., Thiele, Graham, Nelson, R., Bentley, J.W.

    Publicado 2020
“…PMCA brought farmers and other market actors together to form stakeholder platforms which created market innovations, including new potato-based products, expanding the inclusion of diverse actors in the PR processes. (6) Advocacy for PR and policy change with the Andean Change Alliance tested PR methods including PVS and PMCA from 2007 to 2010, providing evidence to influence policies to include smallholders in research and development. (7) After 2010, nutrition-related PR documented anemia among children in the high Andes, which could be mitigated by eating native potatoes rich in zinc and iron. …”

  2. Climate vulnerability assessment of the Espeletia Complex on Páramo Sky Islands in the Northern Andes por Valencia Garcia, Jhon Brayan, Mesa, Jeison, León, Juan G., Madriñán, Santiago, Cortés, Andrés J.

    Publicado 2020
“…In order to estimate climate sensitivity, we first modeled the distribution of 28 Espeletia taxa under a niche conservatism scenario using altitude and five current (1970–2000) and future (2050 RCP 8.5) bioclimatic variables across 36 different Páramo complexes in the northern Andes (49% of the world’s Páramo area). As an alternative to range shifts via migration, we also computed the adaptive capacity of these Páramo complexes by considering three enhancing factors of the biodiversity’s adaptive potential as well as three environmental limiting factors of the populations’ plastic response. …”

  4. Multistakeholder platforms for linking small farmers to value chains: Evidence from the Andes por Thiele, Graham, Devaux, André, Reinoso, Iván, Pico, Hérnan, Montesdeoca, Fabián, Pumisacho, Manuel, Andrade-Piedra, Jorge, Velasco, Claudio, Flores, Paola, Esprella, Raúl, Thomann, Alice, Manrique, Kurt, Horton, Douglas

    Publicado 2016
“…Analyses of work in the Andes (Chapter 8; Cavatassi et al. 2011) indicate that platforms that bring stakeholders together around value chains can result in new products, processes, norms, and behaviors that benefit poor farmers in ways that would not have been achieved otherwise.…”

  5. Divergent knowledge and perceptions of insects by organic and non-organic farming in the Ecuadorian Andes por Cardenas, T., Teixidor-Toneu, I., Navarrete, I., Montufar, R., Dangles, O.

    Publicado 2025
“…We used mixed methods combining ethnoecological and entomological approaches—including field observations, free lists, and semi-structured interviews—to study the diversity of local agricultural insects and farmers’ knowledge in smallholder farming systems in the Ecuadorian Andes and to assess their perceptions and management of agricultural entomofauna. …”
