Towards transforming cassava breeding: Harnessing inbred-parent-based hybrid breeding strategies
Publicado 2024“…To address this, we propose an innovative approach – inbred-parent-based hybrid cassava breeding, aiming to transform cassava breeding by implementing backcrossing-based trait introgression, effectively purging deleterious mutations, and systematically exploring and utilizing heterosis. This perspective paper discusses the key drawbacks of heterozygous parent-based recurrent selection and outlines how the proposed approach overcomes these challenges. …”

Transdisciplinary research approaches for crop science research: theory, practice, and implications for research design
Publicado 2024“…Success needs to be measured in gains from multiple traits, including climate resilience (drought or heat tolerance), nutritional value, value to women farmers or the marginalized, and market traits valued by a range of consumers, as well as the necessary attention to productivity and income-generation (De Grandis & Efstathiou, 2016; FAO, 2023). The systematic exclusion of women and other minority voices may be partly explained by their limited representation in agri-food systems governance (Amoak et al., 2022), as well as programs bereft of research designs that embrace a plurality of views. …”

Climate change policy landscape in Uganda: assessing the extent of implementation of adaptation policies at the sub-national level
Publicado 2025“…While climate change policies in Uganda are formulated by central government bodies, implementation takes place at the local government levels, as these were identified as well-placed government institutions capable of helping rural citizens adapt to the impacts of climate change. For a systematic follow-up of why and how climate change adaptation policies in the country are working or failing, this study applies an empirical examination consisting of focus group discussions, key informant interviews, and literature reviews as a mechanism to establish the extent of implementation of a selected set of climate change adaptation policies at the sub-national level, taking Mityana district as a case study. …”
