Physiological studies on yield and adaptation in Phaseolus vulgaris L
Publicado 1980“…The species is comparable to soybeans in terms of various efficiency parameters (yield per unit leaf area duration, harvest index and yield per day of growth cycle) and differences in crop growth rate are proportional to differences in leaf area. Water stress tolerance, and specific adaptation to temperature extremes have been identified in the species while the results of photoperiod response evaluations appear to have future application in predicting phenological responses…”

Modulation of Dormancy and Growth Responses in Reproductive Buds of Temperate Trees
Publicado 2019“…In addition to increased tolerance to these abiotic stresses, reproductive buds modulate developmental programs leading to dormancy induction to avoid premature growth resumption, and flowering pathways. Stress tolerance, dormancy, and flowering processes are thus physically and temporarily restricted to a bud, and consequently forced to interact at the regulatory level. We review recent genomic, genetic, and molecular contributions to the knowledge of these three processes in trees, highlighting the role of epigenetic modifications, phytohormones, and common regulatory factors. …”

Unravelling the Physiological and Genetic Adaptation of Grafted Pepper under Saline and Hydric Stresses
Publicado 2022“…Therefore, the objectives of this thesis were to: I) screen new tolerant pepper accessions under high salt concentrations and suboptimal water conditions, to increase the availability of tolerant genotypes to be used in future breeding programmes, with the final aim of obtaining new and improved tolerant rootstocks; II) identify the short-term physiological mechanisms of water stress tolerance of a tolerant accession (A25) used as a rootstock; III) identify the physiological mechanisms of short-term tolerance to salinity of a new tolerant hybrid rootstock (NIBER®); and IV) find the main molecular pathways of salinity tolerance of a tolerant accession (A25) compared to a sensitive one (A6) by a transcriptomic approach. …”

Expression Analysis of the TdDRF1 Gene in Field-Grown Durum Wheat under Full and Reduced Irrigation
Publicado 2022“…One of the major challenges for breeders is how to use this knowledge for the achievement of drought stress tolerance. In the present study, we report the expression profiles of the TdDRF1 gene, at consecutive plant growth stages, from different durum wheat genotypes evaluated in two different field environments. …”

Building resilient maize production systems with stress-adapted varieties : Farmers' priorities in western Kenya
Publicado 2022“…Using data from 1,400 farmers and applying a multi-criteria choice analysis, this study reports on smallholder farmers' relative valuation of stress tolerance traits. The results showed that farmers were willing to pay significant premiums for tolerance to drought, striga, low nitrogen (nitrogen use efficiency) and fall army worm infestation, in that order. …”

Excellence in Breeding: Full Proposal 2017-2022
Publicado 2016“…Relevant to the developing world, stress tolerance breeding has also resulted in yield increases under conditions that are similar to farmers’ real conditions such as drought, low fertility, and waterlogging (Septiningsih et al., 2008; Weber et al., 2013), and averted losses or restored production after the emergence of new devastating diseases (Singh et al., 2011). …”

Nutrient dynamics in pak choi cultivation fertilized with biogas digestate : effects of non-nutrient digestate elements and amendment with mineral nutrients
Publicado 2020“…This has been related to improved growth and nutrient stress tolerance in digestate growth trials. As part of this thesis, a greenhouse pot trial with pak choi (Brassica rapa, ssp. chinensis, ‘Joy Choi’) grown in peat was set up to evaluate the plant-nutrient dynamics and biostimulatory effects of a digestate collected at the municipal Karpalund biogas plant in Kristianstad, southern Sweden. …”

Interactions between breeding system and ploidy affect niche breadth in Solanum
Publicado 2022“…The geography of crop wild relatives, including wild potatoes (Solanum section Petota), have received attention; however, such information has not been analysed in combination with phylogenetic histories, genomic composition and reproductive systems to identify potential species for use in breeding for abiotic stress tolerance. We used a combination of ordinary least-squares (OLS) and phylogenetic generalized least-squares (PGLM) analyses to identify the discrete climate classes that make up the climate niche that wild potato species inhabit in the context of breeding system and ploidy. …”
