    Publicado 2019
“…This paper presents an overview of the nutritional value of select neglected and underutilized species (NUS) before describing in detail the work undertaken in four mega-diverse countries—Brazil, Kenya, Sri Lanka and Turkey—to increase the knowledge, appreciation, awareness and utilization of this nutrient-rich biodiversity encompassing both orphan crops and wild edible plant species. The paper highlights the novel and ingenious approaches these countries have used to prioritize a rich diversity of NUS for healthier diets and improved nutrition, and how this knowledge has been used to mainstream these plant species into production and consumption systems, including linking NUS to school meals and public food procurement, dietary guidelines and sustainable gastronomy. …”

    Publicado 2015
“…Foals are born with a digestive tract incapable for digestion of grass but the large intestine grows and develops for a long period of time which gives the foal a higher capacity to digest fiber the older it gets, partly stimulated by growth factors in the mare milk. Orphan foals shows a temporarily lower growth after weaning but thereafter undergoes a compensatory growth. …”

  8. Breeding implications of nodulation performance and root structure under natural inoculation for soil fertility enhancement and sustainable cowpea production por Mekonnen, T.W., Hailemariam, F.M., Amsalu, B., Gedil, Melaku A, Labuschagne, Maryke T.

    Publicado 2022
“…Breeding for high-yielding potential in association with high nitrogen fixation performance is the principal objective of cowpea breeding programs to improve both the productivity and production of this orphan crop in the region. Therefore, the present study was undertaken to determine the diversity of genotypes for nodulation capacity in two environments and to understand the root architecture and morphology of genotypes as well as grain yield and yield-related traits in 324 cowpea genotypes. …”
