Geographic and breed distribution patterns of an A/G Polymorphism resent in the Mx gene suggests balanced selection in village chickens
Publicado 2010“…In indigenous village chicken and red junglefowl, we propose that both A and G alleles have been maintained by natural selection for disease resistance through a balancing selection mechanism.…”

Assessment of physiological adaptation of indigenous and crossbred cattle to hypoxic environment in Ethiopia

Genetic considerations in ecosystem restoration using native tree species
Publicado 2014“…Our discussion is organised across three themes: (i) species selection and the sourcing of forest reproductive material; (ii) increasing resilience by fostering natural selection, ecological connectivity and species associations; and (iii) measuring the success of restoration activities. …”

Selective constraints in cold‐region wild boars may defuse the effects of small effective population size on molecular evolution of mitogenomes
Publicado 2018“…Spatial range expansion during population colonization is characterized by demographic events that may have significant effects on the efficiency of natural selection. Population genetics suggests that genetic drift brought by small effective population size (Ne) may undermine the efficiency of selection, leading to a faster accumulation of nonsynonymous mutations. …”

Differential water-use strategies and drought resistance in Trichloris crinita plants from contrasting aridity origins
Publicado 2018“…In arid environments, water availability is the main limiting factor for primary production, and it is expected that not only drought-resistance, but also plant strategies for soil water use will be under natural selection. Our aim was to investigate the strategies of soil water use and the responses to water shortage that lead to variability in drought resistance in Trichloris crinita plants (a native forage grass of northwestern Argentina) from sites with contrasting aridity. …”

Can achene selection in sunflower crop–wild hybrids by pre-dispersal seed predators hasten the return to phenotypically wild sunflowers
Publicado 2018“…After two generations of natural selection exerted by birds (mostly by Eared Dove and Monk Parakeets), achene and plant traits of the crop–wild hybrid progeny were compared with the same hybrid progeny without any selection by birds. …”

Effects of superparasitism on immature and adult stages of Diachasmimorpha longicaudata Ashmead (Hymenoptera: Braconidae) reared on Ceratitis capitata Wiedemann (Diptera: Tephritid...
Publicado 2017“…The optimal use of available host by parasitoid insects should be favoured by natural selection. For solitary parasitoids, superparasitism (i.e. the egg-laying of several eggs/host) may represent a detrimental phenomenon both in a biological and an applied sense, but under certain circumstances it may be adaptive. …”

Cassava genome from a wild ancestor to cultivated varieties
Publicado 2014“…Our analyses reveal that genes involved in photosynthesis, starch accumulation and abiotic stresses have been positively selected, whereas those involved in cell wall biosynthesis and secondary metabolism, including cyanogenic glucoside formation, have been negatively selected in the cultivated varieties, reflecting the result of natural selection and domestication. Differences in microRNA genes and retrotransposon regulation could partly explain an increased carbon flux towards starch accumulation and reduced cyanogenic glucoside accumulation in domesticated cassava. …”
