Costs and benefits of preserving farm animal genetic resources from extinction: CVM and Bio-economic model for valuing a conservation program for the Italian Pentro horse
Published 2003“…The benefits from a conservation program for this currently unprotected local breed is estimated in a contingent valuation study, while a bio-economic model is used to estimate the costs associated with its in situ conservation. The results show that the benefit/cost ratio is, in the worst scenario, equal to 1.67, thus justifying a conservation policy. …”

Economic analysis of normative versus practical manegement of coniferous stands in Lithuania
Published 2008“…The findings of the study revealed considerable differences between theoretical program developed according to management regulations and practical forest management in situ. Discrepancy between theoretical and practical forest management leads to the uncertain forest economy, and decision making. …”

Nitrogen management in adequate input maizebased agriculture in the derived savanna benchmark zone of Benin Republic
Published 2001“…Here, we explore options to produce organic matter in-situ and evaluate the impact of combining inorganic and organic sources of N on maize yields, focusing on the densely populated derived savanna (DS) benchmark of Benin Republic. …”

Andean maize in Argentina : physiological effects related with altitude, genetic variation, management practices and possible avenues to improve yield
Published 2023“…Local races are characterized by a high genetic diversity that is aiming to be preserved by both in situ and ex situ conservation initiatives. However, little is known about phenotypic variation, impairing the exploitation of these genetic resources in breeding programs. …”

Transient gene expression in transformed banana (Musa cv. Bluggoe) protoplasts and embryogenic cell suspensions
Published 1995“…With the inclusion of polyethylene glycol and heat shock, the frequency of transiently expressing protoplasts reached 1.8% as shown by an in situ β-glucuronidase assay. A duplicated 35S promoter with an alfalfa mosaic virus leader sequence (pBI-426) induced the highest expression rate among the constructs tested. …”

Crop genetic resources in European home gardens: Proceedings of a workshop, 3-4 October 2007, Ljubljana, Slovenia
Published 2009“…These proceedings relate to a workshop on home gardens that was organized in Ljubljana, Slovenia, 3-4 October 2007 by the ECPGR In situ and On-farm Conservation Network. The opportunity to convene nearly fifty scientists working on home gardens in a regional meeting was based on the awareness that home gardens probably constitute the richest agro-ecosystems in Europe in terms of genetic diversity of agricultural crops. At the same time, there is incomplete information on the actual composition of home gardens and on the trends that may affect the maintenance of these precious but possibly fragile ecosystems in the near future. …”

Livestock enclosures in drylands of sub-Saharan Africa are overlooked hotspots of N2O emissions
Published 2020“…Manure, although rich in nitrogen, is rarely used, and therefore accumulates in bomas over time. Here we present in-situ measurements of N2O fluxes from 46 bomas in Kenya and show that even after 40 years following abandonment, fluxes are still ~one magnitude higher than those from adjacent savanna sites. …”
