Yield stability of selected rice breeding lines and donors across conditions of mild to moderately severe drought stress
Publicado 2018“…Although mild to moderately severe drought stress may have less of an effect on rice grain yield than severe drought stress during reproductive stage, its prevalence across rice farmers’ fields at the global level may be more economically significant. In this study, field experiments were conducted on selected genotypes with known tolerance to severe reproductive-stage drought in order to identify those that would produce high and stable grain yield across seasons and soil moisture conditions varying from well-watered to mild and moderately severe drought stress. …”

Combining field and simulation studies to improve fertilizer recommendations for irrigated rice in Burkina Faso
Publicado 2005“…Development of improved fertilizer recommendations entirely based on field experiments is time‐consuming and costly. We employed a combination of two simulation models and selected field data to develop alternative fertilizer recommendations (AFR) for irrigated rice (Oryza sativa L.) in Bagré, Burkina Faso. …”

Using leaf color charts to estimate leaf nitrogen status of rice
Publicado 2003“…The objectives of this study were to (i) compare three different types of LCC in estimating leaf N status, (ii) determine if specific leaf weight (SLW) affects the estimation of dry weight–based N concentration (Ndw) by LCC, and (iii) determine the relationship between LCC scores and SPAD values. Two field experiments were conducted in the Philippines with different N rates and cultivars grown during 2000 wet season and 2001 dry season. …”

Nitrogen dynamics and balance in intensified rainfed lowland rice-based cropping systems
Publicado 1997“…Such information is essential to improve the efficiency of N fertilizer, an input based on a nonrenewable energy resource and whose oxidized products pose hazards to human health and the environment. Field experiments at an experimental farm on an Inceptisol and in two farmers' fields, one with an Inceptisol and one with a Vertisol soil, quantified (i) NO‐3‐N and NH+4‐N in different soil layers in relation to water‐filled pore spaces (WFPS), (ii) N balance, and (iii) systems‐level N efficiencies in several cropping patterns. …”

Stacking beneficial haplotypes from the Vavilov wheat collection to accelerate breeding for multiple disease resistance
Publicado 2024“…By adopting haplotype-based local genomic estimated breeding values, derived from an integrated set of 34,899 SNP and DArT markers, we established a novel haplotype catalogue for resistance to the six diseases in over 20 field experiments across Australia and Ethiopia. Haploblocks with high variances of haplotype effects in all environments were identified for three rusts, and pleiotropic haploblocks were identified for at least two diseases, with four haploblocks affecting all six diseases. …”

Publicado 2024“…This study aimed to determine the physiological basis of differential yield response of some maize varieties under varying level of nitrogen and different sowing windows in Guinea and Sudan savannas of Nigeria and identify stress surrogate traits for yield improvement in maize. Field experiments were conducted at Bayero University, Kano (11058`38.63892N, 80 25`7.01868E), altitude 451m above sea level in the Sudan savanna and Zaria (11.16050610N, 7.64535890E) in Northern Guinea Savanna. …”

Identification of drought and heat tolerant tepary beans in a multi‐environment trial study
Publicado 2024“…To better understand the phenotypic response of tepary bean to drought and heat stress in multiple environments and trials and to select highly adapted tepary beans, we conducted two field experiments. In Experiment 1, we compared the adaptation to drought stress of tepary bean ( n = 10), common bean ( n = 10), and Lima bean ( Phaseolus lunatus L.; n = 9) by assessing the reduction in grain yield under terminal drought compared to well‐irrigated conditions in two California locations with arid summer conditions. …”

Publicado 2025“…We reviewed 40 years of research and development on rice blast in Nepal, analysing historical weather patterns and mapping the incidence and severity of the disease across the country based on empirical observations and field experiments. Using historical data on rice blast incidence and climate information, we show that rice blast pressure is increasing intensively and changing weather patterns are becoming more favourable for rice blast epidemics. …”
