Orchard systems offer low-hanging fruit for low-carbon, biodiversity-friendly farming
Publicado 2025“…However, high-intensity orchard management can lessen the human and environmental health benefits of fruticulture. In the present article, we argue that increased emphasis on biological control could contribute to preventative manage- ment of fruit pests, weeds, and diseases, resulting in pesticide phasedown. …”

In pursuit of a better world: crop improvement and the CGIAR
Publicado 2021“…We compiled the opinions from more than thirty experts in the private and public sector on key strategies, methodologies and activities that could the help CGIAR meet the challenges of providing farmers with improved varieties while simultaneously meeting the goals of: (i) nutrition, health, and food security; (ii) poverty reduction, livelihoods, and jobs; (iii) gender equality, youth and inclusion; (iv) climate adaptation and mitigation and (v) environmental health and biodiversity. We review the crop improvement processes starting with crop choice, moving through to breeding objectives, production of potential new varieties, selection and finally adoption by farmers. …”

Innovahubs: In-depth local actor and stakeholder analysis. Stakeholders’ assessment of the dynamic relationships and recommendations for sustainable scaling from within the Innovah...
Publicado 2023“…In addition, within the Innovahubs, one of the activities to be carried out is the scaling up of innovations (technologies or practices) that can better respond to the AgriLAC Initiative's impact areas of: a) Nutrition, Health and Food Security; b) Poverty Reduction, Livelihoods and Employment; c) Gender Equality, Youth and Social Inclusion; d) Climate Change Adaptation and Mitigation; e) Environmental Health and Biodiversity. As part of the work to be carried out this year, there was a need to evaluate the progress of the Innovahubs in these impact areas, and to know which innovations have the potential for scaling up from the regions. …”

Climate change and nutrition: Creating a climate for nutrition security
Publicado 2013“…Undernutrition in turn undermines climate resilience and the coping strategies of vulnerable populations. The objectives of this paper are to identify and undertake a cross-sectoral analysis of the impacts of climate change on nutrition security and the existing mechanisms, strategies, and policies to address them.A cross-sectoral analysis of the impacts of climate change on nutrition security and the mechanisms and policies to address them was guided by an analytical framework focused on the three ‘underlying causes’ of undernutrition: 1) household food access, 2) maternal and child care and feeding practices, 3) environmental health and health access. The analytical framework includes the interactions of the three underlying causes of undernutrition with climate change, vulnerability, adaptation and mitigation.Within broad efforts on climate change mitigation and adaptation and climate-resilient development, a combination of nutrition-sensitive adaptation and mitigation measures, climate-resilient and nutrition-sensitive agricultural development, social protection, improved maternal and child care and health, nutrition-sensitive risk reduction and management, community development measures, nutrition-smart investments, increased policy coherence, and institutional and cross-sectoral collaboration are proposed as a means to address the impacts of climate change to food and nutrition security. …”

Affordability and nutritional challenges for the future of EAT diets: An economic modelling analysis
Publicado 2025“…The decreasing price index for the cheapest two commodities reflects market adjustments to changes in demand and supply under scenario assumptions aligned with 2025 EAT–Lancet Commission goals for jointly improved human and environmental health. The observed nutrient deficiencies suggest the 2025 EAT–Lancet Commission diet limits on animal-sourced foods might be too strict for lower-income countries, which could exacerbate nutrient deficiencies in contexts where access to animal sourced foods is already low (eg, vitamin A), especially if there is no access to supplementation for meeting these nutritional requirements or other sources of dietary nutrients.…”
