Agrobiodiversity and nutrition in traditional cropping systems - Homegardens of the indigenous Bakiga and Banyakole in southwestern Uganda.
Publicado 2018“…Households (n=102) were identified via stratified, random selection across three distinct regional ecological zones of southwestern Uganda (forest-edge, deforested areas, and wetland-edge). …”

Snakebite in domestic animals: First global scoping review
Publicado 2019“…WHO’s Medically Important Venomous Snakes were more frequently involved. The social-ecological determinants of snakebite were poorly documented but the reviewed literature suggested a strong seasonality and a diversity of habitat. …”

Impact of foliar application of zinc and magnesium aminochelate on bean physiology and productivity in Ghana
Publicado 2021“…However, limited research has been undertaken to understand the response of beans to amino Zn and Mg foliar fertilizer application in Ghana. )is study was conducted to investigate the effect of zinc, magnesium, and combined zinc and magnesium foliar fertilizer application on two improved common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) varieties locally referred to as Adoye and Nsroma in the forest (Fumesua) and forest-savannah transition (Akumadan) agro-ecological zones of Ghana during the 2018 and 2019 cropping seasons.)etreatments were arranged in split-plot design with the two improved common bean varieties as the main plot, and foliar fertilizer options (zinc, 200 g/ha; magnesium, 224 g/ha; combined zinc and magnesium, 100 g/ha Zn and 112 g/ha Mg) and water spray (control) as the subplot treatments. )e zinc and combined zinc and magnesium treatments had similar and significantly (P ≤ 0.05) higher plant height of 37.1 cm and 38.7 cm compared to the control and magnesium treatments. )e results also showed that chlorophyll content was approximately 15.6% higher in plants treated with zinc plus magnesium compared to the other treatments. …”

Profitability of Gliricidia-maize system in selected dryland areas of Dodoma Region, Tanzania
Publicado 2022“…Declining soil fertility and climatic extremes are among major problems for agricultural production in most dryland agro-ecologies of sub-Saharan Africa. In response, the agroforestry technology intercropping of Gliricidia (Gliricidia sepium (Jacq.)) and Maize (Zea mays L.) was developed to complement conventional soil fertility management technologies. …”

Incidence and Occurrence of Latent Ralstonia solanacearum Infection in Seed Potato from Farmer Seed Grower Cooperatives in Southern and Central Ethiopia
Publicado 2022“…In the absence of a reliable and sustainable seed potato testing for latent infection, farmers seed group cooperatives (FSGCs) who are the main producers of seed potato in Ethiopia as quality declared seed (QDS) will continue to disseminate Rs even in seed produced at extremely high altitude agro-ecologies. Consequently, it is recommended that QDS from FSGCs should be subjected to mandatory latent Rs infection indexing before they can be distributed as trusted potato planting stock despite the cost that would be involved. …”

Cassava-maize intercropping systems in southern Nigeria: radiation use efficiency, soil moisture dynamics, and yields of component crops
Publicado 2022“…Due to the popularity of cassava-maize intercropping and the food security and economic importance of both crops in Nigeria, we investigated options to improve interception of photosynthetically active radiation (IPAR), radiation use efficiency (RUE), soil moisture retention, and yields of cassava and maize in cassava-maize intercropping systems in 8 on-farm researcher-managed multi-location trials between 2017 and 2019 in different agro-ecologies of southern Nigeria. Treatments were a combination of (1) maize planting density (low density at 20,000 maize plants ha-1 versus high density at 40,000 maize plants ha-1, intercropped with 12,500 cassava plants ha-1); (2) fertilizer application and management targeting either the maize crop (90 kg N, 20 kg P and 37 kg K ha-1) or the cassava crop (75 kg N, 20 kg P and 90 kg K ha-1), compared with control without fertilizer application. …”

Towards sustainable productivity enhancement of rice-based farming systems in sub-Saharan Africa
Publicado 2022“…There is broad consensus regarding the need for more labor-saving technologies, including mechanization options, provided these do not increase the ecological footprint of production systems. 6. Future rice agronomy research work should be interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary, to better address the myriad of challenges of smallholder farmers in Africa. …”
