Sugar provisioning maximizes the biocontrol service of parasitoids
Publicado 2017“…There is increasing interest in the use of food supplements in agriculture to enhance the performance of parasitoids as part of conservation biological control. Nevertheless, there is limited evidence demonstrating the effectiveness of this approach, and this shortage of successful examples raises doubt regarding the validity of this approach. …”

Could sterile males be used to vector a microbiological control agent? The case of Rhynchophorus ferrugineus and Beauveria bassiana
Publicado 2017“…Some females from the fungus-challenged treatments showed post-mortem hyphal growth, and this horizontal transmission proves that irradiated males could act as a vector for B. bassiana and should be considered as a new method to improve the biological control of R. ferrugineus.…”

Natal host and learning as factors in host preference by Spalangia cameroni Perkins (Hymenoptera: Pteromalidae)
Publicado 2019“…The parasitoid Spalangia cameroni Perkins is a commercially available biocontrol agent of filth flies that is also used, especially through inundative releases, for the biological control of fruit flies. Adequate host selection behaviour is essential to the reproductive performance of parasitoid females, and innate and learned host species preferences play a key role in it. …”

The psorosis disease of citrus: a pale light at the end of the tunnel
Publicado 2020“…However, in the last 2 decades a virus with unusual morphology (Citrus psorosis virus, CPsV) was characterized and closely associated with psorosis disease as previously defined by field symptoms and by biological indexing in sensitive indicator plants. With a tripartite, negative-sense, RNA genome and a ~48 kDa coat protein, CPsV, the presumed causal agent of psorosis, is the type member of the genus Ophiovirus, within the new family Ophioviridae. …”

Guidelines for statistically sound and risk-based surveys of Phyllosticta citricarpa
Publicado 2021“…At the request of the European Commission, EFSA prepared these specific guidelines to guide the surveyor through the design of statistically sound and risk-based surveys for Phyllosticta citricarpa, integrating the key biological information. Based on examples, three different survey designs are simulated:(i) detection surveys to substantiate pest freedom, (ii) delimiting surveys to determine the boundaries of an infested zone, and (iii) buffer zone surveys to monitor a zone ensuring pest detection at low levels of prevalence. The first step of the survey design consists of setting the goals of the survey, characterising the host plant population and the methods used to identify the pest. …”
