Optimal production areas of underutilized indigenous crops and their role under climate change: focus on Bambara groundnut
Publicado 2022“…Unlike commercial crops that are generally adapted from other regions, underutilized indigenous crops are uniquely suited to local environments and are more resilient to climatic variations and tolerant to local pests and diseases. This study, done in Limpopo Province, South Africa, identifies optimal areas for cultivating Bambara groundnuts (Vigna subterannea), an indigenous crop suitable for arid and semi-arid regions. …”

Potential markets for forage hybrids in East Africa
Publicado 2023“…New forage hybrids developed for the region are a promising effective response to these difficulties because of their adaptability to the local soil and climate conditions and response to pests and diseases. In addition, they contribute to reducing methane emissions and use nitrogen more efficiently, which translates into a reduced use of chemical fertilizers, cost savings, and mitigation of greenhouse gas emissions. …”

Economic and health impacts of genetically modified eggplant: Results from a randomized controlled trial of Bt brinjal in Bangladesh
Publicado 2019“…The differences in net yields were driven by two outcomes: the quantity harvested was higher on Bt brinjal fields, by 114 kilograms per farmer; and after harvesting, fewer fruits were discarded because of damage due to pests and diseases, by 40 kilograms per farmer. Increased production, together with a 14 percent increase in price and a 10 percent reduction in costs, leads to a substantial increase in profits from cultivating Bt brinjal for treatment farmers compared with conventional brinjal produced by control farmers. …”
