Francisella tularensis subspecies holarctica : the curious case of a water- and mosquito associated bacterium in Sweden
Publicado 2013“…Francisella tularensis, the causative agent of the zoonotic disease tularaemia, is highly contagious and potentially fatal for a wide range of wildlife species of the northern hemisphere, also humans. Although recognized as a pathogen for over 100 years, much still remains to be elucidated concerning the ecology and transmission of the bacterium, hence this literature overview aims at compiling data regarding the aquatic association and the role of mosquitoes in transmission of Francisella tularensis subspecies holartica, the sole subspecies in Sweden. …”

Relationship between moose (Alces alces) home range size and crossing wildlife fences
Publicado 2013“…Since traffic and roads have expanded over the years, wildlife behaviour has become more interesting not only for the prevention of vehicle collisions but also to understand how human activities impact their natural habitats. Moose is one of those animals that have increased in interest in such studies. …”

Inverkan av urbana grönområden på människors hälsa
Publicado 2015“…These are challenges that politicians and city planners in today's society should take into account when it is expected to cause problems in the future regarding the economy and human health. To highlight efforts to improve public health, the main objectives of this study is to examine the evidence regarding the relationship between the available green space in urban environments and people's physical and mental health. …”

Broad range plastid genome editing with monomeric TALE-linked cytosine and dual base editors
Publicado 2024“…Recently, Cho et al. (2022) developed TALE-linked deaminases (TALED) that can catalyse A-to-G base conversions in human mitochondria. Harnessing the discovery of DddAtox (Cho et al., 2022), we generated new monomeric TALE-linked CBEs for plastid editing by exploring two cytidine deaminases: a human APOBEC3A variant (hA3A-Y130F) with broad editing windows (Ren et al., 2021) and an improved cytidine deaminase based on TadA (Lam et al., 2023), generating mTCBE and mTCBE-T respectively. …”

Making trees count: Measurement and reporting of agroforestry in UNFCCC national communications of non-Annex I countries
Publicado 2019“…Agroforestry—the integration of trees with crops and livestock—generates many benefits directly relevant to the UNFCCC’s Koronivia Joint Work on Agriculture, including: (i) building resilience, (ii) increasing soil carbon and improving soil health, (iii) providing fodder and shade for sustainable livestock production and (iv) diversifying human diets and economic opportunities. Despite its significance to the climate agenda, agroforestry may not be included in measurement, reporting and verification (MRV) systems under the UNFCCC. …”

Assessment of plant genetic resources for water-use efficiency (WUE): managing water scarcity: Proceedings of the Bioversity International/INRA/IDRC/AARINENA Workshop for North Afr...
Publicado 2007“…This is particularly true with regard to agriculture, which utilizes more than two-thirds of the global water used by humans. Continued successful management of the limited amount of water available for agriculture is dependent upon better agronomic practices and an enhanced understanding of genetic variation for water-use efficiency (WUE) among crop genotypes, especially in areas prone to water scarcity. …”

Can climate interventions open up space for transformation? Examining the case of climate-smart agriculture (CSA) in Uganda
Publicado 2019“…In particular, it is in the interaction between these spheres where spaces for transformation lie; for example, in the contesting of subjectivities casting farmers as passive recipients of expert advice, in the assumptions regarding what constitutes “good development”, and in how worldviews frame the way we see human-nature relations. Nevertheless, interventions like CSA are often focused mainly on changes to practices or technologies, rather than on how power relations or worldviews shape practices, food security and inequity. …”

Publicado 2020“…Host species identification revealed that goats and humans were the main sources of bloodmeal. There was an overall increase in mosquito abundance and diversity as a result of the presence of the irrigated ecosystem in this county, and an increased availability of highly RVF-susceptible hosts as a result of the establishment and concentration of residential areas, promoting potential vector–host contacts. …”
