Application of deep tillage and Berken Maresha for hardpan sites to improve infiltration and crop productivity [Abstract only]
Publicado 2017“…We studied the impact of improved tillage practices on infiltration, erosion, runoff and crop productivity during the rainy period of 2016 in Robit-Bata watershed located in upper Blue Nile, Ethiopia. The experiments were carried out in Maize fields where four tillage treatments were compared: (i) no-till (NT), no ploughing; (ii) conventional (CT), plots tilled three times using oxen driven Maresha, (iii) deep (DT), manual digging up to 60 cm using a mattock and (iv) Berken tillage (BT), plots tilled three times using an oxen driven Berken plough. …”

Learning from adaptive collaborative management: A participatory tool to support adaptive and reflective learning in multi-stakeholder forums

Profiling of bean seed and variety information dissemination channels used by seed producers in Eastern and Southern Africa
Publicado 2022“…For example, despite having new maize varieties, the average age of maize varieties in farmers’ fields is 15-20 years (Marcho et al., 2020), the age of rice varieties grown by farmers in India is 25 years (Marcho et al., 2020), and varietal turnover for common bean is 19 years in Ethiopia (Habte, et al., 2021). Having low variety turn over makes several dollars invested in developing new varieties go to waste since the superior varieties are not in use and not in farmer hands. …”
