NTFP harvesters as citizen scientists: Validating traditional and crowdsourced knowledge on seed production of Brazil nut trees in the Peruvian Amazon
Publicado 2017“…Our findings suggest that productivity estimates of Brazil nut trees and possibly other NTFP-producing species could replace or complement actual measurements, which are very expensive and labour intensive, at least in areas where harvesters have a tradition of collecting NTFPs from the same trees over multiple years or decades. Productivity estimates might even be sourced from harvesters through registers on an annual basis, thus allowing a more cost-efficient and robust monitoring of productivity levels.…”

A review of NARES-IARC-Donor collaboration to develop demand-driven technologies for improved maize production in West and Central Africa
Publicado 2007“…Average productivity of maize increased by about 30% while total grain production in the region increased by nearly 400% during the two decades of WECAMAN's existence. Other benefits derived from the Network were improved research capacity of the NARS and capability of the research technicians and scientists, better research-extension-farmer linkage, improved research management and communication skills of the scientists and improved interpersonal relationships, with enhanced trust and confidence among maize scientists in the subregion. …”

Using weather index insurance to improve drought response for famine prevention
Publicado 2007“…Just as improved early warning systems and emergency needs assessment practices have used timely monitoring and analysis of vulnerable areas to significantly improve humanitarian response in recent decades (Barrett and Maxwell 2005), so too can weather index insurance facilitate further improvement by addressing several key remaining weaknesses in global famine prevention efforts. …”

Assessment of Large Scale Land Cover Change Classifications and Drivers of Deforestation in Indonesia
Publicado 2015“…National capacity for forest change assessment and monitoring has been well-established in Indonesia and the availability of national forest inventory data could largely assist the country to report their forest carbon stocks and change over more than two decades. This work focuses for refining forest cover change mapping and deforestation estimate at national scale applying over 10,000 scenes of Landsat scenes, acquired in 1990, 1996, 2000, 2003, 2006, 2009, 2011 and 2012. …”
