Innovation capacity, food system development, and the size of the agricultural research system
Publicado 2023“…Methods: A three-step methodology is proposed where the first step consists of creating an index of the development of a food system using indicators of the technological transformation of the food supply chain and the changes in diets on the demand side. The second step involves developing a measure of innovation capacity at the country level, while the final step consists of systematic comparisons of countries with large and small agricultural research systems to find the relationship between the size of a country's research system, the level of development of its food system, and its overall capacity to innovate. …”

Multidimensional forests: Complexity of forest-based values and livelihoods across Amazonian socio-cultural and geopolitical contexts
Publicado 2023“…The findings underscore the persistent importance of non-economic values of forests as both Indigenous and non-Indigenous groups constantly adapt their forest and land use practices based on transcultural exchange and changing conditions. A focus on economic value as the rationale for forest conservation disregards the striking resilience of cultural values in promoting forest conservation and use by diverse local and Indigenous communities, especially when supported by favorable policies and markets.…”

Seasonal and spatial patterns of surface water quality in large-scale treatment wetlands with different vegetation communities
Publicado 2023“…Surface water quality in FW1 had more evident seasonal patterns and was less affected by 2017 storm events compared to that of FW3. The changes and patterns of water quality indicate that the processes (e.g., plant nutrient uptake, microbial assimilation, detritus decomposition and particle settling, etc.), which take the primary role of removing nutrients from the water column in FW1, vary not only due to the differences in plant growth but also to variations of hydraulic and nutrient loadings over wet and dry seasons. …”

Publicado 2023“…The common bean (Phaseolus vulgaris L.) is an important nutritional source globally but is sensitive to high temperatures and thus particularly vulnerable to climate change. Derived from a breeding program at CIAT (Colombia), a heat-tolerant breeding line, named heat-tolerant Andean-type 4 (HTA4), was developed by a series of crosses of parents with a small-bean tepary genotype (Phaseolus acutifolius L.) in their pedigree, which might be the donor of heat stress (HS) tolerance. …”
