“…These districts were identified to experience contrasting climatic conditions, degraded soils and declining soil fertility by the Climate Change, Agriculture and Food Security programme (CCAFS) of the Consultative Group for International Agricultural Research (CGIAR). Fifteen bean varieties bred for different traits were tested in six villages to determine their performance for yield and yield components, and reaction to diseases and in nine villages for farmer preference. …”
