Summary:The paper refers to the agro-industry and competitiveness. Competitiveness is a concept which can be applied to any economic activity. Then, it refers to the context and sources of agro-industrial competitiveness in the 1990's: global and regional trends, transition towards a new techno-economic paradigm and implications for agricultural competitiveness. Also, it refers to the LAC agricultural competitiveness with recent agro-industrial export performance of LAC and the new economic directions in the region. The last point is towards agro-industrial competitiveness policies.
